Join Brew City Ghosts to stroll the haunted streets of Milwaukee. Hear the haunted history of Milwaukee’s City Hall, an architectural marvel with a dark past. Completed in 1895, it was dubbed the “suicide well” during the Great Depression, as its open atrium design became the site of multiple tragic suicides. From the heart-wrenching leap of Frances Schurmeir, devastated by the potential loss of her son, to Charles Darling’s final act, each story left an indelible mark. By the 1940s, metal netting was finally installed to prevent further deaths, but the emotional residue of despair lingers. Visitors today report feelings of unease and heaviness as if the spirits of those who found their end there remain tethered to its historic walls. The Pfister Hotel, known as the “Grand Hotel of the West,” has stood as a symbol of luxury since its opening in 1893. Founded by Charles Pfister to honor his late father, the hotel became a haven for distinguished guests, from politicians to celebrities. Charles, who made the hotel his residence, is said to have never truly left. His spirit reportedly roams the eighth floor and the grand staircase, ensuring his vision of hospitality endures. Baseball players visiting the hotel frequently recount eerie encounters: footsteps in empty halls, flickering lights, and even unexplained physical touches. While some find the hauntings unsettling, many see them as part of the hotel’s storied charm. From the sorrowful echoes of City Hall’s atrium to the playful yet unnerving hauntings of the Pfister, these landmarks serve as reminders of the city’s vibrant and haunted legacy. Whether you’re a history enthusiast or a ghost hunter, Milwaukee’s stories promise to linger in your mind long after the tour ends.
